Past Projects:

2009

 

  • Barcodes, commissioned by the Cambridge Music Festival to compose music from the patterns associated with our DNA. In collaboration with Kathie Neal and three Cambridge schools. 

 

2007 

  • New work commissioned by the NYO, to integrate young professional musicians, schoolchildren and children with special needs. The piece will be based on material created by participants during workshops starting in April, then performed by them and the NYOBAND at a series of concerts in September 2007.

2006

  • Composition project, St Bernard's School, Southend, took three different approaches to composition with three different year groups; visual stimulus, the written word and counting systems.
  • Artistic Director, Royal College of Music, Higher Education Summer School. A week long course including composition and improvisation with 30 Year 11 pupils and 15 students from the RCM (2001 - 2006)
  • Artistic Director, Royal College of Music, Summer Music. A week of creative music making based around story-telling for musicians aged 6-13 (2005 & 2006)
  • Orpheus, a composition and performance project for Children's Music Workshop at Eltham College Junior School. A week long project with Years 3, 4, 5 & 6 to create an opera based on the Orpheus myth.

2005

  • Syzygy, a creative music, visual art and dance project with Harlow schools based on ideas from Sinclair's work Say I Am You, performed by Harlow Chorus, Southend Boys and Girls Choir and Britten Sinfonia.
  • The Clowns, opera workshops for English Pocket Opera.

2004

  • Seeing Sound, Hearing Colour, a creative music and art project about synaesthesia with artist Mark Rowan-Hull in Highfield Hospital, Oxford for the Oxford Philomusica.
  • Composition and improvisation workshop leader, Royal Academy of Music Summer Schools 2002
  • The Clowns, opera workshops for English Pocket Opera.

2003

  • Music Director, Virtual Carmen in association with English Pocket Opera and Kings Cross Education Action Zone. The project integrated professional singers, schoolchildren and players from the RCM Junior Department conducted by Sian Edwards in a re-telling of Bizet's Carmen combining live performance, pre-recorded material and live internet streaming.
  • Carmen, opera workshops for English Pocket Opera.
  • Planet Discovery, a words and music project with schools in Slough, based on the discoveries of William Herschel.

Other projects include:

  • Skyquest, a creative music, performance and photography project integrating pupils from Brentford schools, Sky employees and the Orchestra of St. John's (2002)
  • Drumathon, a community drumming project in Oxford with Radiohead's Phil Selway and OSJ (1999 & 2000)
  • Colourscape, an instrument making and creative music project with South London schools and sculptor Alexandra Julyan (2000)
  • Music Director of Hallisinia, a three-year collaboration between the Tate Gallery, Royal National Theatre, Orchestra of St John's and pupils from Southwark schools to write an opera celebrating William Hogarth's tercentenary. Performances of the finished piece were given with a professional cast and orchestra at Tate Britain (1995 - 1997)
  • Creative music, art and dance projects in Oxford and London for OSJ (1994 - 1998)
